PORTLAND – A Portland high school student that brought a loaded gun to school Tuesday was settling a dispute over hallucinogenic mushrooms also known as "shrooms," police said.

A witness saw the 15-year-old Franklin High School student displaying the handgun to a group of people at the Burger King on Southeast Foster Road and Powell Boulevard around noon, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of Portland police.

After learning the names of the students, police contacted the school. The boys were called to the school’s office and officials found a loaded handgun in a student’s pocket.

One of the students stole his parents’ handgun and brought it to school. He planned to use it to demand his money back from the alleged drug dealer, Simpson said.

The 14-year-old boy gave the gun to a 15-year-old student at the Burger King. Both students were arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.
