STAYTON, Ore. – A Stayton man died after he crashed his bicycle on Highway 22E Saturday afternoon, police said.

Leon Hyatt, 55, was riding his bike on the east shoulder of Highway 22E when he reportedly ran over a 2x4 piece of wood, causing him to lose control, according to Lt. Gregg Hastings of Oregon State Police.

Hyatt fell off his bike and landed on his face. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, Hastings said.

Hyatt was taken to Santiam Hospital in Stayton then air lifted to Oregon Health and Science University, where he died of his injuries.
