The following statement was released Monday by Whitney Boise, the attorney representing Officer Jason Walters

My statement regarding the incident is as follows -

Before the facts are known, certain individuals are voicing opinions about whether the shooting of Mr. Collins by Officer Walters was justified. It has been reported in the media that there are a number of eye witnesses to the incident. It is only fair to the public, the family and friends of Mr. Collins, and Officer Walters, that the statements of these witnesses and the evidence surrounding the case are known before opinions are formed or judgments made.

Jack Collins was fatally shot at Hoyt Arboretum's Visitor Center, near the bathrooms, after advancing toward Walters with a bloody knife and covered in blood, and after reports that Collins was threatening others, according to a Police Bureau investigation. Full story
