SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State Police say a Salem police detective traveling on Interstate 5 shot and wounded a pickup truck driver after that man armed himself with a gun and confronted the detective.

State police say Detective Angus "Scott" Emmons turned on his emergency lights Thursday night and tried to stop the pickup driver south of Albany after the driver passed the detective's unmarked vehicle at high speed.

The driver initially failed to pull over, then suddenly stopped and confronted Emmons.

State police said Friday night the injured man's condition is not life-threatening. His name has not been released.

Emmons has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.

The detective was traveling with an Oregon Department of Justice investigator enroute to an assignment when the pickup truck passed them.   State police say it doesn't appear the investigator fired his weapon but he, too, has been placed on administrative leave.
