SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) -- Police arrested a Springfield man who they say broke the arm of his girlfriend's 20-month-old son and neglected to take him to a doctor.
Shawn Richard Cannon was arraigned Friday on charges of assault and criminal mistreatment.
Springfield police Sgt. David Lewis told The Register-Guard newspaper that the child's arm was broken Nov. 10 and it wasn't until five days later that a relative learned of the injury and finally took the boy to the hospital.
The hospital alerted police that the broken arm may have resulted from abuse.
Lewis says the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible. Cannon, who is 24, is in Lane County Jail.
