PORTLAND – A Southeast Portland man looked out his window late Friday night just before a car drove through his house and into his backyard, completely destroying his home.
Greg Buckland told KGW that just before 11 p.m. he heard a noise outside his home at Southeast 60th Avenue and Southeast Flavel Drive.
When he got up to see what the commotion was, he watched as a car crashed into the front of his house.
The vehicle tore through his bedroom and tossed Buckland against a wall before making its way through the back of his house, finally coming to rest in his back yard against his neighbors’ fence, he said.
Buckland said police told him the car was going at least 100 mph and became airborne as it went over speed bumps.
The car damaged two bedrooms, the living room and the dining room of the house, he said.
Buckland was at home recovering from a shoulder surgery he had seven days earlier and went to the hospital after the accident and was told all his shoulder work was ripped apart.
According to Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police, the driver of the car was 28-year-old James Anderson who was booked in the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office on charges of DUII, criminal mischief, and reckless driving.
