GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. -- Ski season is officially starting on Mount Hood.

Timberline lodge announced almost a foot of fresh snow would allow lifts to be open on the lower mountain terrain seven days a week starting Friday.

“We’re off to a great start,” spokesman Jon Tullis said. “We always love to be able to get the lower mountain open with good conditions in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Early season conditions are very good. Skiers and snowboarders are going to be very thankful.”

Two chairlifts were scheduled to operate this weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full operation was expected by Thanksgiving.

Mt. Mood Meadows announced 20 inches of snow had fallen in 24 hours, just in time for its Saturday limited opening, according to the resort's Dave Tragethon.

"It's a great storm," he said.
