KELSO, Wash. -- Cowlitz and Skamania Sheriffs are asking for the public's help in locating a Japanese national last seen in the Mt. St. Helens area on Nov. 27.
Yosuke Onishi, 26, of Japan, had told friends he was interested in climbing Mount Saint Helens, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s office said.
A woman that hitchhiked with Onishi to Cougar, Wash. believed he was headed in up the mountain. Before Onishi disappeared, he borrowed a pair of snowshoes from the Lone Fir Resort in Cowlitz County.
According to Charlie Rosenzweig of the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, Onishi was last seen by Ronald Jackman, owner of the Lakeshore Store and Deli in Cougar.
Jackman saw Onishi getting into a grey or light brown passenger car the morning of Nov. 27., Rosenzweig said.
There was an Asian couple and a small white dog in the car, Rosenzweig said.
Anyone with information regarding Onishi are asked to contact 360-577-3092. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call Cowlitz Crime Stoppers at 360-577-1206.
