SALEM -- Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley wants to spread the word that electric cars can change the way America uses energy – so he’s driving across the state to share his “oil-free” message.
The senator said he plans to drive in an electric vehicle from Oregon’s border with Washington all the way to California over the next couple days. He said it’s about highlighting the need to declare our independence from overseas oil.
“We can't yet celebrate oil independence day but this type of project will take us much closer,” he said.
Merkley’s caravan of electric cars on I-5 will make stops in Portland, Salem, Halsey, and Springfield Monday. On Tuesday, the scheduled stops include Roseburg, Canyonville and Grants Pass.
