SALEM -- A Salem woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday for raping her friend's 12-year-old son.

Sarah Beth Hopkins, 35, was also sentenced to post-prison supervision for life and must register as a sex offender

The victim told his mother last August that he and Hopkins were sexually active for eight months and had sex with her about 15 times. The mother alerted police and Hopkins eventually pleaded guilty to rape and sodomy charges in Marion County court.

When Hopkins was questioned by police, she admitted having sex with the boy, but said she did not threaten him, according to the probable cause statement.

Hopkins was initially facing 10 charges and her bail had been set at $1 million. Four charges were dismissed as part of her settlement deal.
