SALEM – Officers shot and killed a woman Friday night after a traffic stop and foot chase, according to Salem police.
At around 10 p.m. Friday night, police stopped a vehicle driven by Jacklynn Rashaun Ford, 25, on Watson Avenue NE, near Alameda Street NE, according to Lt. Dave Okada of the Salem Police Department.
The traffic stop turned into a tense scene when the suspect left the vehicle and started running, according to several witnesses. They heard officer Trevor Morrison yell stop and then let his canine Boco chase down the suspect.
She was caught about 100 feet away in a small neighborhood park.
Lt. Okada said officers tried to keep Ford alive with CPR. She later died at the hospital. Investigators said they discovered a firearm near the shooting scene.
