SALEM -- An arrest has been made in the murder of a an employee found dead Wednesday morning in a parking lot outside the NORPAC Foods plant in Salem.
Wednesday evening the Marion County District Attorney's office said they'd arrested 44 year old Farouk "Alex" Eldabaa of Keizer. Detectives say there are no other suspects in the death.
Workers found the body outside NORPAC Foods, at 2325 Madrona Ave. SE, as they arrived just after 5:30 a.m., said Lt. Dave Okada of the Salem Police Department.
Authorities later confirmed that the victim was Eric Davis, 46, a longtime employee of the vegetable packing plant. He was a warehouse supervisor and had been with NORPAC for the past five years.
Witnesses said it looked like he had gunshot wounds.
Police have not commented on a possible cause of death but said an autopsy was being conducted.
Detectives were investigating the death as a homicide, Okada said, and they are also asking the public to help with information of this crime.
“These are unusual circumstances. It is a homicide investigation and we will be working very closely with the public and the business,” Okada said. “If anybody has any information about this situation we would like to hear from them. At this point it's very early in the investigation.”
NORPAC released the following statement late Wednesday morning:
NORPAC Foods is deeply saddened and shocked by the apparent homicide of one of our longtime employees. Our thoughts and ongoing support are with this employee’s family and close colleagues. NORPAC management is working closely with Salem police to provide them with full access to any information they need to investigate and solve this crime.
The plant was also closed for the day. Employees were sent home while police investigate.
