MOLALLA -- A man died after gunfire broke out when a SWAT team responded to a report of a domestic violence call near Molalla involving firearms.

Deputies were dispatched about 10 p.m. to the 30000 block of South Oregon 213, according to Sgt. Nathan Thompson of the Clackamas County sheriff's office.

The suspect's wife had already fled the home with her children. She had unspecified injuries from what Thompson described as a felony assault.

Shane Griffin, 36, who lived at the home, died from gunfire after SWAT officers "made contact with the subject just before 2 a.m." Thompson said.

Police did not say early Monday morning whether Griffin took his own life or he was fired upon by officers.

The highway was shut down from Vick to Barnards roads while the shooting was investigated.
