PORTLAND -- Investigators have arrested a suspect in the Jan. 9 hit-and-run in Southeast Portland that critically injured a 22-year-old man.

Max Martin was in a crosswalk on Southeast Powell Boulevard near Southeast 31st Street when he was struck around 9 p.m. Police said one car traveling on Southeast Powell Blvd. stopped for Martin but then a second vehicle struck him and left the scene westbound.

Police believe 58-year-old Gregory Latoza was driving the vehicle that hit Martin.

Latoza turned himself in to the police Tuesday. He faces two counts of felony hit-and-run and will be arraigned on Wednesday. His bail was set at $10,000.

Martin was critically injured in the crash but he has since been released from the Portland hospital to finish his recovery at home.

Police recovered a silver 2003 Ford Focus that they believe was used in the hit-and-run the weekend after it occurred. But they did not find the suspect until now.

Officers served search warrants on the vehicle and Latoza's residence as part of the investigation.
