ALBANY, Ore. -- A staff member at West Albany High School was arrested on allegations of rape and sodomy, officials said.

Scott Leonard Zeigler, 41, was arrested Thursday and accused of four counts of third-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sodomy.

The arrest followed an investigation into a three year relationship Zeigler reportedly had with a Jefferson High School student, according to Don Thomson with the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Zeigler was a coach at the high school from 2008 until 2010.

"The student told detectives that she and Zeigler had sexual relations at Jefferson High School and in other locations in Albany and Linn County," Thomson said. "Detectives recovered cell phone texting evidence confirming the relationship."

"I have no information of any inappropriate conduct by Mr. Zeigler in the Greater Albany School District," said Albany Public School District Executive Assistant Jim Haggart.

Zeigler has worked eight years for the district, as an education assistant, head coach for the girls lacrosse team and assistant coach for the girls volleyball and basketball teams, Haggart said. He was placed on paid administrative lead during the investigation.

Zeigler was expected to appear in court at 3 p.m. Friday.
