PORTLAND - Fences have been removed at Lownsdale and Chapman Square parks in downtown Portland six months after the Occupy Portland encampment.

Areas of reseeded grass were healthy enough to warrant the changes, Portland Parks and Recreation officials said.

Protesters camped out in the parks in October and November of last year, until the city ordered them to leave.

Damage to the grounds, as well as the nearby elk statue that was cracked, was intially estimated at $85,000.

Restrooms were also closed for repairs.
