PORTLAND – A landlord wanted in connection with the murder of his tenant was arrested Thursday evening, according to Portland police.
Detectives suspected Gary Alan Lewis, 61, of murder after the remains of his tenant, Renee Suzanne Sandidge-Crowell, 59, were found in Northeast Portland on Tuesday, police said.
A surveillance image of Lewis from a local business in Portland was released by police earlier Thursday (above left). Police identified the man in the image as Lewis and determined that he was still in town.
He was later spotted in Northeast Portland by a someone who called 911. Lewis was taken into custody without incident. Police have not released further details of the arrest.
Renee Sandidge-Crowell was last seen alive at her home on Northeast 66th Avenue Saturday around 6 a.m. She rented a basement apartment from Lewis, who lived in the same building.
Lewis was last seen on June 7 at his Northeast Portland home, according to Portland police Det. Mark Slater.
Sandidge-Crowell's remains were found Tuesday on a property at 3934 Northeast 66th Avenue, according to Sgt Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
