PORTLAND – Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers returned to the bargaining table Thursday morning.
The two sides met with a state mediator in another attempt to agree a new contract. Some consensus was reached earlier on workload and health insurance, but now the sticking point is salary.
It’s the first time the union and the district have met since Monday night’s school board meeting, when students, parents and teachers rallied in support of the union. The board quickly wrapped up its business and walked out.

A PAT representative said Thursday morning the two groups also cleared their calendars for Friday and Saturday, in case more talks are needed.
