PORTLAND -- Neighbors in Northeast Portland will be learning what they can do to protect themselves and their children against potential sexual assaults at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday night.

A number of recent sexual assaults and a flasher that has been targeting residents and children over the last month have made some neighbors anxious, according to Stephanie Reynolds with the City of Portland's Crime Prevention program.

Police officers and detectives, self-defense teachers and a rape victim advocate will be answering questions and telling people what they can do to prevent and report crimes.

The city will also encourage residents to form foot patrols.

"It's important for people to be active, feel safe and take control of their neighborhood again," Reynolds said.

The meeting happens from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Grant Park Church at 2728 NE 34th Ave. For more information call 503-823-2030.
