PORTLAND -- The Portland City Council is trying to market its patented Portland Loo to other cities.

The solar-powered, graffiti-resistant outdoor toilets cost $60,000 to manufacture, and the city has already sold one to Victoria, B.C., for $100,000. The cities of Anchorage, Alaska, and San Diego have also expressed interest in the loos.

Money from the sales would be used to defray the cost of twice-daily cleans of the five loos in downtown Portland.

To help generate additional sales, the city council has agreed to hire three contractors to market the product.

The contractors will receive 10 percent of the sales price as a commission.

Portland installed the first of its five loos in 2008.
