PORTLAND -- Two burglary suspects were arrested after a Portland homeowner chased them and their getaway vehicle crashed Monday evening, police said.

Police were called at about 6 p.m. to the report of a burglary near Southeast 116th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street.

"The burglary had been interrupted when the homeowner returned home and tried to block the suspects in his driveway," said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.

The suspects were able to drive away, but the homeowner followed them in his own car until the vehicle they were in crashed about four blocks away, Simpson said.

"The passenger and the driver jumped out and started running," a witness told KGW. "They were in a hurry."

Officers at the scene were able to link the vehicle with a residence, where they found the suspects, 30-year-old Mark I. Keith (pictured, right) and 33-year-old Benjamin T. Hicks.

Both were jailed on burglary charges.
