Poll:
Do you feel safe on TriMet buses and MAX trains?

PORTLAND – A TriMet driver told police a man punched him in the face and then took off Sunday afternoon near Jantzen Beach.

At 1:40 p.m., two men with a dog got on the bus, the driver told police.

When the driver told the men they could not have a dog on the bus, the men claimed it was a service animal, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

The driver let the men ride, and when they were getting off the bus, one of them punched the driver, Simpson said.

After searching the area, police found two men who matched the suspects’ description.

Christopher Jones, 19 (left), and Tonari Harris, 24 (right), were both arrested on assault charges and booked in the Multnomah County Jail.

The dog was given to a family member.
