Timbers' Caleb Porter is MLS Coach of the Year

PORTLAND -- Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter was named the 2013 Major League Soccer Coach of the Year.

In his first MLS season, he guided the Timbers to a 14-5-15 record. They finished the regular season in first place in the Western Conference.

They also set team records in points, wins, goals, goal differential, shutouts and fewest goals allowed.

Porter is the eighth head coach in MLS history to win Coach of the Year after his first full season in the league.

Other finalists included Mike Petke of the New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake’s Jason Kreis.
