PORTLAND --The police union said Portland Police Bureau Chief Mike Reese took work away from union patrol officers when he took on patrol shifts to help cut down overtime.

Dayna Haynes, spokesman for Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, said Wednesday a grievance was filed by the union with the Ore. Employment Review Board in Salem earlier this week.

It asks that the board rule the chief's patrol shift hours rightfully belong to union officers. The union asked that the chief be prevented from taking any patrol shifts in the future.
