PORTLAND – A well-known mountain bike racer from Portland is recovering after getting shot by a robber in California.

Matthew Slaven, 36, was shot in the neck and the bullet shattered his collar bone. He was reportedly in a Santa Cruz Park with three other people when the robber demanded money and fired the gun.

The gunman fled and has still not been captured.

Doctors think Slaven should make a full recovery.

Slaven rides for team Kona and his sponsors include Clif Bar, Rock Shox and Easton Cycling.
