SALEM – A female suspect with a handgun robbed a string of convenience stores Sunday morning in Salem, police said.

It was a scary morning for the clerk at the Salem Market convenience store at Center Street and Hawthorne Avenue. He opened the store at 5:30 a.m. and said the woman came in just before 6:30 a.m.

Surveillance video shows a larger woman in her mid-30s, wearing sunglasses, a black hat and dark jacket. The clerk said she stayed back from the counter and started making demands.

The clerk then threw a beer can at the woman who ran off with no money.

The Plaid Pantry on 25th and State streets and the Center Market on 12th Street and Fairview Avenue Southeast were also robbed around the same time by a similar suspect.
