PORTLAND -- Police are investigating a deadly house fire in Southwest Portland.
Fire crews were called to the scene at 10931 SW 61st Avenue just after 12:30 p.m. They arrived to find heavy fire and smoke pouring out of the home.
Rescuers searched the home and found a man inside, but they said he could not be saved.
Two neighbor, including K.J. Adams also tried to get into the burning home to save the man, but could not reach him. Firefighters said extreme clutter conditions made it an especially difficult fire to battle.
"I crawled in about three feet, but it was so cluttered I couldn't get any further. Clutter and smoke, it was just ridiculous," he said.
Another neighbor used a garden hose to try and douse the flames.
The victim's identity has not yet been released.
