PORTLAND – The owner of a pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run crash along Southeast Foster Road Sunday has surrendered to police.
Charles Francis Gillespie, 67, of Happy Valley, turned himself in to deputies after seeing his vehicle (photo above) on the news as part of the hit-and-run investigation, according to Lt. Steve Alexander with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office
Gillespie was interviewed and released, pending charges, Alexander said.
The pedestrian was hit by a black pickup truck that was towing a trailer, near the intersection of Foster and 172nd Avenue late Sunday night. The pedestrian, later identified as Dorena Hernandez, 33, of Happy Valley, suffered serious injuries but was expected to survive, authorities said.
Police quickly began circulating a surveillance photo of the pickup truck and asked for the public's help identifying the driver who hit Hernandez and then fled the scene.
Alexander on Monday said Gillespie was cooperating with investigators.
