ALBANY – Albany police say they have identified the person of interest Friday in connection with a reported rape last week.

A man allegedly climbed through a second-story balcony and raped a woman at an Albany apartment complex on May 8, police said.

The crime happened not far from an apartment where a 8-year-old boy called police to report that his mother had been shot to death inside their home Tuesday.

Police released a photo of a man they wanted to question as a "person of interest" in the rape case. They did not say if they believed the two cases were connected.

Surveillance video (shown in photo at right) showed the man.

On Friday, police said they have identified that person of interest but did not identify the man.
