PORTLAND -- A man who called 9-1-1 Wednesday morning to report that he had been poisoned attacked the officers who responded to the plea for help, investigators said.

The man made the call about 8:20 a.m. from Heavenly Donuts at 504 NE 102nd Avenue, then hung up, said Sgt. Pete Simpson.

The officers were sent to assist medical crews that had been dispatched to the shop, Simpson said. As he was being escorted to an ambulance, he started a violent fight.

Several officers were needed to take the man down and secure him in a gurney, Simpson said. It appeared the man may have been under the influence of meth, he said.

No officers were hurt. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose. His name was not released.
