PORTLAND -- U.S. Marshals arrested a man in Northeast Portland Monday in connection with a homicide last Thursday in the Wilkes neighborhood, police said.
Michael Leonard, 43, was arrested without incident at Northeast 159th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of murder.
On Thursday, a fight broke out just after 12:30 a.m. at the Village Garden Apartments, on 15278 NE Sandy Boulevard.
Arriving officers found 40-year-old Dion Anthony Matthews suffering from critical injuries. Emergency crews tried to save him but he died at the scene, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau.
Police said that witnesses at the scene provided critical information to Gang Enforcement Team officers and Homicide detectives that helped them track down Leonard.
Leonard was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday in Multnomah County Court.
