GRANTS PASS, Ore. – A Beaverton man was arrested for allegedly speeding 100 miles an hour along Interstate 5 near Grants Pass Tuesday morning.
Police said Isaiah Haywood, 25, was spotted driving his black Land Rover at recklessly high speeds northbound on I-5 from the Medford area to near Grants Pass.
Troopers responding to 9-1-1 calls about the speeder said they tried to pull Haywood over near the Manzanita Rest Area.
“As the vehicle slowed to a stop, it then accelerated and pulled out of the rest area northbound attempting to elude the troopers at speeds over 100 mph,” said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.
A trooper was eventually able to force the SUV to a stop and then officers blocked traffic as they tried to talk Haywood into surrendering.
“A trooper broke out a rear side window to gain access inside the vehicle, and then they deployed pepper spray and a Taser on the resisting driver to take him into custody,” Hastings added.
No injuries were reported.
Haywood was lodged in the Josephine County Jail for felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
