PORTLAND -- TriMet reported that a person was struck by MAX train in downtown Portland shortly before 9:30 a.m.

The incident occurred at Southwest 6th Avenue and Clay Street. Initial reports suggested a pedestrian was running along Southwest Clay Street and ran into the side of the moving MAX train, said TriMet spokeswoman Angela Murphy.

The victim was conscious and breathing at the scene but taken to a local hospital to get checked, Murphy said.
