PORTLAND -- A 78-year-old woman was killed and her 80-year-old husband was injured when they were hit by a pickup in Southeast Portland Friday morning, police said.
Just before 11:30 a.m., the couple was hit in an unmarked crosswalk at Southeast 84th Avenue and Division Street.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, according to Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
The 38-year-old driver reportedly pulled out from a side street heading eastbound and did not see them before his pickup truck struck them.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Simpson said. Police said they do not believe the driver was impaired.
Southeast Division Street was closed from 82nd Avenue to 87th Avenue for three hours while a major crash team investigated.
