Man pinned under MAX train has died

PORTLAND -- A man who was hit and pinned underneath a Portland MAX train at Southeast 94th Avenue and Southeast Division Street Sunday has died as a result of his injuries.

Just after 4 p.m., Phu Van Nguyen, 48, reportedly walked or ran in front of the Green Line MAX train and was pinned underneath the rail car, said TriMet spokeswoman Roberta Altstadt.

Emergency crews freed Nguyen from under the train and immediately took him to the hospital. He died as a result of his injuries Sunday evening. 

Nguyen was a resident of Southeast Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, police said.

TriMet was continuing to investigate the incident.
