PORTLAND -- A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed while walking on Interstate 5 Sunday night, police said.

The man was hit by the car in the southbound lanes, just south of the Donald-Aurora exit around 9 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the man stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. No citations have been issued.

Investigators said a woman reported a domestic assault at the Baldock Rest Area south of Wilsonville that appeared to be connected to the case.  The woman told police she took off in their car and left her husband, Troy Tribby behind at rest stop, after he allegedly attacked her.

A person at the rest stop later told responding officers that they had seen a man running after a vehicle that was heading onto the highway.

A coroner later identified the man hit by the car as Tribby, 48, of Ashland. He died at the scene.
