PORTLAND -- A Portland business said it got burned after getting in the middle of the Portland Public Schools teacher contract fight.

Think Pink is a business that places brightly colored birds in people’s yards for things like birthdays or sports rivalries.

Recently, the company was hired to put several hundred flamingos in the yards of three school board members.

Signs accompanied the birds, which read “settle the flocking contract.” Think Pink co-owner Wendy Ettelson said one of the board members asked the business to remove the flamingos, but another member simply threw about 100 of them away.

“We were sickened. We couldn't even talk, the phone line went dead between us. We didn't know what to think,” Ettelson said. She added that the birds and signs were worth about $600.

Portland Public Schools spokeswoman Christine Miles said the prank was a serious matter.

"Some of our board members feel like it's an invasion of privacy. That's their home, that is where their family lives," she said.
