PORTLAND – Some travelers flying from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Portland International Airport Monday got a pleasant surprise thanks to one Twitter user's suggestion.

A Twitter user who said they loved the feeling of going home for the holidays inspired Target Corp. to give the passengers of Delta flight #1052 a special holiday treat.

All 150 passengers, plus the flight crew, received $25 gift cards, free neck pillows and WiFi, according to Target spokeswoman Sarah Van Nevel.

The national retail chain has been promoting the Twitter hash tag  #MyKindofHoliday and mining it for suggestions as part of a campaign to spread holiday cheer, said Van Nevel.

Target asked it Twitter followers Monday morning what they did to spread cheer throughout the holiday season. Twitter user Swimming Obsession responded about a yearning for home.

"We immediately thought of air travel and how frustrating  it is to travel around the holidays," Van Nevel said. "So we thought of something we could do to make a flight a little more pleasant."

The company plans to do more random gift giving across the country throughout the week. Van Nevel would not give out further details.

"Part of the fun of all this is surprise," Van Nevel said. "So, stay tuned."
