PORTLAND -- An estimated 50,000 holidays travelers will pass through Portland International Airport each day this weekend.

Lines were hefty at ticket counters Friday afternoon, but moved quickly. Airlines stressed that passengers need to arrive two hours before their planes takes off, or they risk missing their flight.

There were minor delays due to weather in other regions o the country and, as of Friday afternoon, most flights were on time.

Explosive-sniffing golden retrievers were checking people and their bags as they entered the security line. TSA employees said the dogs have been around since a training program began a few months ago, but they're much more visible on the high-traffic days.

"So far it is great," said one traveler. "Check-in was fantastic, very quick. I was very surprised."

AAA estimates a record 95 million Americans are traveling during the holidays.

Most of them, about 9 in 10 travelers, are driving.

The roads will be busy. While most mountain passes are clear, drivers should be prepared with traction devices and emergency gear.
