SALEM -- The state of Oregon held a huge sale of surplus items Saturday but the garage sale actually continues daily, and online.
The first-come, first-served event was at the state's General Store located at 1655 Salem Industrial Drive NE.
Garage sale hounds should note that the General Store is open every day from 1 to 4 p.m., but the volume of goods prompted the state to hold a Saturday event.
The list includes "compressors, generators, landscaping tools, desks, chairs, file cabinets, hand tools, power tools and boxes, yard items, art pieces, tires and wheels, pocket knives, and many more miscellaneous items," according to the Department of Administrative Services.
"This sale is by far the largest event we have held in the history of our department," said Nole Bullock, acting operations manager.
Many items sold by state are on a continually fed eBay site.
Recycled computer equipment compiled by the non-profit Garten foundation is auctioned at this site. Recent listings included monitors and Dell and HP computers.
Want your own Bluesmobile? Make your bids on a retired cop cars at the Oregon surplus vehicle site. A 2006 Crown Victoria black-and-white was going for $3,000 with just minutes left in a recent auction.
While the ongoing garage sale is for items not worth listing on eBay, the state does sell higher quality surplus goods here. Recent items included an Asian-style amulet, a gas-powered drill and an Icon motorcycle jacket.
