ASTORIA, Ore. -- Astoria's deputy fire chief resigned once presented with evidence that he forged the signatures on at least two of his training certificates -- even one from his own boss.

The Daily Astorian reports Steve Straily has signed a letter of revocation of his certificates, meaning he can't work as a firefighter again in Oregon.

An internal investigation into Straily's actions is still ongoing. Astoria fire officials also suspect him of claiming qualifications he didn't have when he applied.

Astoria Police Chief Pete Curzon, who is filling in as the interim fire chief for the city of Astoria's department, says he reviewed a certificate Straily claimed certified him for marine firefighting.

Curzon says he noticed the certificate carried his name, but the signature was significantly different from his own.
