FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A police officer was taken to the hospital after he was cut while trying to subdue a suicidal man in Forest Grove Sunday morning.
Police found a blood soaked man with a knife who had several injuries they believed to be self inflicted at a motel at 4433 Pacific Avenue, said Capt. Mike Herb with Forest Grove police.
The man yelled at officers to shoot him. Police tried to get the man away from the edge of a balcony and subdued him to get his knife away, Herb said.
During the struggle, an officer was cut and had to be taken to the hospital. He has since been released.
The suicidal man, who police said is a 61-year-old Beaverton man, was taken by Life Flight to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
