NEWBERG, Ore. – A Newberg man who allegedly severed his mother's finger with a compound bow was arrested Sunday night.
Just after 5:30 p.m., a neighbor reported that 21-year-old Randall Bracken shot his mother in the hand with the bow at 315 N. Harrison St., according to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.
The neighbor said Randall’s mother’s finger was severed due to the shooting.
Police searched the house and nearby area for Randall. They found him walking down Chehalem Drive, carrying the bow in a “low ready” position.
Officers said at first, Randall wouldn’t follow orders but soon complied with police and was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with assault in the second degree, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.
Randall’s mother was taken to a Portland hospital where doctors amputated her injured finger.
