OREGON CITY, Ore. – An Oregon City man was cited for DUII New Year’s morning after he crashed into a tree and hid in a rest stop bathroom with serious injuries, police said.

At 7:18 a.m., police got several reports of a suspicious person who was injured at the French Prairie Rest Area near milepost 282, said Lt. Gregg Hastings with Oregon State Police.

A responding state trooper then found 22-year-old Chael Jakob Lynch inside the rest area bathroom and called paramedics. They took Lynch to Oregon Health & Science University with serious injuries that were not life threatening, Hastings said.

Lynch was injured a few hours earlier after he careened into trees lining the rest area near southbound lanes of Interstate 5 and sheered a large tree in half, Hastings said.
