PORTLAND -- Vandals busted out the windows of several dozen cars in Southeast Portland overnight.
Police started getting reports around 2 a.m., said police bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.
At least 25 people called in over several hours. It appears a pellet gun was used by vandals in a car, he said.
A shaken Jan Messina said she was "devastated" by the vandalism, which she characterized as violence. She had just put $1,000 in repairs into her car, which now has a shattered driver-side window.
Alice Stupak had the back windows of both of her SUVs broken out. She got the bad news from her mail carrier. At least, she said with resignation, the repair shop was able to offer a two-fer discount to replace them.
Simpson said vandalism appears to be the only motive. None of the vehicles had items taken from them.
The cars were hit around the 1500 to 1700 blocks of SE Poplar; the 2400 block of SE Ladd Avenue; the 2800 to 3500 blocks of SE Brooklyn Street; the 3600 block SE Gladstone Street; the 2800 block of SE 41st Avenue and the 1500 to 2500 blocks of SE 45th Avenue.
Any additional victims should call the non-emergency line, (503) 823-3333, or report online.
