SALEM -- A security camera caught a glimpse of a shadowy masked man peering in the front door of the El Torito Market in Salem Saturday morning.
"The guy broke in by smashing the office window then he took our money," said Jose Gomez, the meat department manager.
The bad guy went straight for the money, but left quickly after the security alarm sounded in this store that's been serving the people of Salem for 9 years and has never before been burglarized.
The crook was far from finished. He just moved a block down Lancanster Drive. He attacked two other small businesses, a florist and a dress shop.
"Money, that's all they took. We had some cash in the drawer, but nothing else was taken," said Lori Jacobson the owner of Lollipops and Roses.
In all 3 crimes, cash was the target.
It's the busiest time of the year in all three businesses and cleaning up damage is a waste of valuable time and money.
"We have many flower orders going out and still have a few more days to get it all done. Cleaning up glass all morning is not helping," said Jacobson.
Just three days ago, a group of transients was kicked out of an empty business in this area. Salem police say they had started a campfire inside.
Salem police are investigating, but they don't know if the two cases are connected.
