PENDLETON, Ore. – A man captured last year for the stabbing death of a 19-year-old woman and the vicious beating of another woman in Pendleton pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder Wednesday in a Umatilla County court.
Lukah Pobzeb Chang, 23, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 35 years behind bars for the August 2012 stabbing death of 19-year-old Amy Jane Brandhagen and violent beating of 53-year-old Karen Lange in August of 2013.
Police linked Chang, a Marine deserter from Morganton, N.C., to the murder after investigators found DNA evidence at the scene where Lange was attacked.
Police identified Chang as a suspect in both cases, and he was arrested after food service workers spotted him in the Pendleton Convention Center in August.
