PORTLAND -- A Portland man was killed in a head-on crash between a semi-truck and a car on Marine Drive Wednesday morning

Police said 23-year-old Rory James Neidert, of Southeast Portland, was driving eastbound when he crossed over the center line and crashed head-on with the tractor-trailer, driven by Stevene Eugene Means, 56, of Troutdale.

The impact of the crash killed Neidert instantly and pushed his car backwards into a sedan driven by 39-year-old Erika Ann Desentz, of Gresham.

Desentz and Means were not hurt in the crash.

"It's hard," said witness Paul Neinzman of the crash scene. "I've seen accidents. I've come up on scenes. I've seen the death. I didn't go near it. I stayed my distance."

The crash in the 7800 block of Marine Drive closed the roadway between NE 33rd Avenue and NE 122nd Avenue.

KGW's Sky 8 showed the severely crumpled red car, a Dreyer's Ice-Cream-brand semi-trailer and a third car, a silver sedan, with minimal damage.

The involved vehicles narrowly missed a van full of developmentally-delayed adults watching planes at the airport.

"Debris from the accident actually hit the side of the van," said Lt. Eric Schober of Portland police. "It's just literally a miracle."
