PORTLAND -- A man was still in critical condition Sunday after being hit by a car in Downtown Portland Thursday night, police said.
Just before midnight, 23-year-old Cody Riley was struck near the intersection of W Burnside Street and SW 2nd Avenue, according to Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Officers responding to the scene found Riley suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He did not appear to be under the influence of intoxicants, Simpson said.
Witnesses told investigators that Riley attempted to cross Burnside against traffic, and that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
No arrests or citations were issued. The case was still under investigation.
A pedestrian hit Friday night in Southeast Portland was also in critical condition at a Portland hospital Sunday, and investigators said he was under the influence of alcohol when he attempted to cross SE Foster Road.
