PORTLAND -- Police thought a man who was found lying on a street in Southeast Portland early Tuesday was a hit-and-run victim, until he was taken to a nearby hospital and found to be suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police described his injuries as traumatic, but not life-threatening and described him only as a 54-year-old man.
"He remains in critical condition at a Portland hospital. The victim's name will be released after his family has been located and notified," said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
The victim was found by a truck driver near Southeast 85th Avenue and Powell Boulevard at about 2 a.m.
Anyone with information was asked to call Portland Police Bureau assault detectives at (503) 823-0400.
